About Thomas Walker
As a small child Thomas loved horses, any opportunity to be around one was taken. Growing up between the United States and Denmark, Thomas was privileged to have horses in his life from an early age. At age eleven, Thomas and his family moved to Nipomo, California, where he continued his education in dressage.
At age fourteen Thomas was introduced to Henrik Thise, another Danish rider who was in the States on a work visa riding for Charlotte Bredahl. After becoming friends, Thomas and Henrik began working with each other to bring horses from Denmark to America. With the help of his family, Thomas imported his first three horses at the age of fifteen. That same year Thomas was introduced, and began riding with one of his greatest mentors today, Charles de Kunffy. By age seventeen Thomas had earned his USDF bronze medal; and by twenty, his USDF silver medal riding his FEI horse Robin. Thomas has had the opportunity to train with many talented riders and trainers both in the United States and abroad. Some include: Charles de Kunffy, Charlotte Bredahl, Klaus Balkenhol, Anabel Balkenhol, Sue Blinks, Lone Bang Larsen, Hasse Hoffman, Shelley Lawder, Hilda Gurney, Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg, and Gyula Dallos. Today Thomas continues to study under Charlotte Bredahl and Mr. de Kunffy.In 2008 Thomas found a new horse named Legacy to fullfill his dream of being on the Region Seven North American Young Rider team. After a rigorous show season, Thomas and Legacy made the team and with the help of their teammates, took home the gold medal at the FEI North American Young Rider Championships. Today Thomas continues to import and sell top quality dressage horses from Europe, as well as running his training business at home. Thomas hopes to compete in the Brentina Cup this year and to earn his USDF gold medal.
Thomas is currently competing several horses, including Don Moreno, a Hannovarian gelding owned by Cynthia Riley of Montecito California. Thomas and Don hope to compete in their first Grand Prix by January 2010.
